[book] Star Island by Carl Hiaasen
Cherry Pye (or Cheryl Bunterman) is a 22-year-old pop star who has been familiar with the lime light since she was 14. Attempting to comeback from her most recent drug and alcohol fueled derailment, she hires a "stunt double" by the name of Ann to cover for her when she's too inebriated to fulfill her public pop star duties (you know, club openings and funerals). Except Ann is mistaken for Cherry by the wrong person at the wrong time - obsessed paparazzo Bang Abbott. He kidnaps Ann in an attempt to get exclusive photos of Cherry that will fetch a high price once she's dead - which is sure to be within the year at the rate she parties, he assumes.

Star Island Hiaasen's replaces Florida's corrupt officials and dumb tourists with vapid L.A. blondes and bottom feeders. Fans will recognize all the sleaze and satire that make his books so delicious.
