[dvd] "Greenberg" on DVD
We've gotten so used to Ben Stiller acting in big, broad comedies like
Dodgeball,
Meet the Parents, and
Tropic Thunder, that we forget he's got some dramatic chops as well. Take
Greenberg, for example, the new film from director Noah Baumbach. He's the title character, a onetime musician who has returned to LA after having a little bit of a breakdown. He's neurotic, self-absorbed, and angry, so he immediately beds Florence (mumblecore darling Greta Gerwig), his brother's assistant. He also spends soem time badgering his old former bandmate (Rhys Ifans). It's a tough, awkward picture about finding peace in the small tasks of life and about struggling to grow up.
The featurettes on the DVD are worth watching.
